Join the Haitian American Lawyers Association of NY for a discussion on healthy practices for mental stability in the legal field. Our goal is to have an open  and productive conversation about the things that often plague legal professionals (like other professionals) i.e. depression, anxiety, burnout, imposter syndrome, superwoman syndrome, and boundary setting - what they are, how to recognize them, and how to create healthy practices to combat them.

Joining our panel we have:

Dominique Marcus LCSW -  a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Georgia and New York who provides counseling services to persons 18 and older specializing in BIPOC who suffer from “imposter syndrome” and women who struggle with “superwoman syndrome”. She has worked in schools, military institutions, temporary residential treatment settings, and private practice. She is the owner of Contemporary Healing Spaces LLC, which she started to address the lack of cultural competence and authenticity with mental health providers and to create spaces where her clients can feel seen and heard without labels.

Sohamy Pinard, NP – a Brooklyn based, board certified, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with her own mental health company and private practice. Sohamy has been in the field of mental health for over twelve years in various capacities. Her current positions as a provider, speaker, and author allow her to help my clients, and community, using a range of resources. She started AWRNSS LLC, with the goal of normalizing conversations of mental health, by removing the stigmas placed on it. Through events, group talks, workbooks and more, AWRNSS’ goal will always be, to help people heal. Her motto is “No more small band aids on machete cuts.”

Betty Jean, MA, LPC, CCTP – Director of Call Center Services for Mental Health Association of NJ’s Mental Health Cares Helpline. Betty has 17+ years within the mental health field providing clinical counseling services to individuals from early childhood to late adulthood. Her clinical practice focuses on children and women who are dealing with depression, anxiety, and a history of trauma. She has made a lifelong commitment to social justice and concern for others, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Counseling and Supervision at Kean University. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty of Psychology and Counseling and has been teaching for the last seven years.

Lawyers Depression Project - a group of legal professionals (attorneys, paralegals, law students, and admin) who have suffered from depression, anxiety, bipolar, OCD, eating disorders, trauma, sexual abuse, addiction and other mental health conditions, or who just don’t feel quite right. LDP launched its grassroots project to help break the stigma around discussing mental health and to provide peer support to each other. They host a confidential forum and bi-monthly online peer-to-peer support group meetings and offer members the option of anonymity.

This discussion will take place on Wednesday May 24th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on zoom.
